IS CATNIP HARMLESS?

The catnip is safe for the cats as they can enjoy this safe, non-addictive herb from the mint family. The catnip has been proven as a safe thing for the cat. However, an excessive amount may cause a short-termed spell of diarrhea.

Catnip is neither toxic nor addictive for the cats. Thus, it can freely use as a reward or training aid for the cats.

IS IT SAFE FOR CATS TO EAT CATNIP PLANT OR LEAVES?

Some cats prefer to eat the leaves of catnip that is usually safe for most cats. If the cat has a sensitive digestive tract and start vomiting once consume leaves of catnip, then it is better to give the cat a toy with the leaves safely inside it rather than providing the herb directly.

A toy with leaves will allow the cat to enjoy the effect of catnip leaves without eating them. It is the scent that sets off the cat. Several toys can be top up with fresh leaves, or a toy can be just moved around in a plastic bag of the crumpled leaves or use a spray mist.

The Catnip Do’s

Use it as a treat : catnip is a fun treat for the kittens as well as it is healthy for the cats. It is better to sprinkle the dried leaves of catnip in the area you want the cat to be interested in or spray the catnip liquid on the cat’s favorite toy. The cat will start chewing, rolling after having the smell of catnip.

Give in small doses : through research, it is found that a cat can smell catnip at a ratio of 1:1 billion in the air. It does not take much for the cat to get excited after sniffing the scent of catnip. A small amount of catnip is enough to make the cat feel high. However, it is better to make sure that there is enough area available in case of multiple cats.

The Catnip Don’ts

Prohibit to aggressive cats : it is always better to avoid giving catnip to the aggressive cats. Offering them catnip makes them more aggressive and they can cause damage to other animals in the house.

Large Quantity : a large amount of catnip can cause nervousness in cats along with nausea. However, there is no chance for an overdose toxicity of catnip. If a high dose taken by the cat, take away the catnip source away from the cats.
